Welcome to St Andrew’s Church.  We are part of the Maghull and Melling Team Ministry in the Diocese of Liverpool.

St Andrew’s is a fine Victorian church close to the A59 and Leeds/Liverpool Canal in Maghull.

Yet the real truth is that St Andrew’s is a community of Christian people living, working and caring for Maghull  and beyond.  This ministry dates back at least 800 years. Our mission statement is that:

‘St Andrew’s Church seeks to encourage people to encounter Jesus through Welcome, Worship and Witness.’

The Maghull and Melling Team Ministry includes four churches; St Andrew’s, St James’ and St Peter’s in Maghull and St Thomas’ in Melling.

  4. Hi, is there any chance we can have a list of the PCC members wither on a notice board, in the notices or on the website please? I’d love to speak to people about the plans for church, but don’t know who they are! Nicole

  6. Hi, I was just wondering if you hire out the church hall at all for children’s birthday parties? Many thanks sara

    1. Hi Sara

Thanks for your enquiry. Do you mean the Church Hall next to the Church, or the Parish Hall on the corner of Damfield Lane and Deyes Lane?

      1. Hi Bev, I was enquiring about the hall behind the church but hadn’t thought about the Parish Hall on the corner so either would be fine if they are available to hire out. It is just for my sons 4th birthday party. Thanks for your help. Sara

      2. HI Sara

Sorry for the delay in replying. The best thing to book the Church Hall is ring the Parish Office on 0151 531 8972 (you will probably have to leave a message as the office isn’t manned but someone will get back to you) or for the Parish Hall on the corner, the Booking Secretary is Val Bridges on 0151 526 4161

  7. Do you still hold traditional Church of England services or are you “happy clappy”? My church here in Huntington Beach, California, successfully straddles a lne between ancient and modern so the music is a mix of Gregorian chant and Britten.
Thanks, Suzanna Byrne, Huntington Beach, California, born in Maghull during WW2.

    1. We hold a variety of services, so hopefully there’s something for everyone. There’s a weekly Holy Communion and a monthly choral Evensong using the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. The main morning service uses Common Worship liturgy, with choir and organ. And there’s a bi-monthly “Keystone” service which is generally happy, often with clapping!

      1. Thatsounds wonderful. I will be home next Mardh for a month and will try for the 1662 prayer book. May God bless you richly. My parents are both buried in the Church yard where I would like to end up some day. I will always love Maghull as I have a range of memories both good and not so good. I grew up there when there were very significant “class lines” across which we may not cross.Despite all this I became an adjunct professor of English and my faith has wavered from time to time, but not for long.
